Review: Red Sparowes - “Aphorisms” EP

Posted on October 26 2008.

Band: Red Sparowes
Album: Aphorisms EP
Year: 2008
Label: Sargent House

Track list:

1. We Left Apes To Rot, But Find The Fang Grows Within
2. Error Has Turned Animals Into Men, And To Each The Fold Repeats
3. The Fear Is Excruciating, But Therein Lies The Answer

The new EP from Red Sparowes saw the light of day in August digitally through Sargent House, and according to band, the 12” vinyl release should be out by the end of the year.

A three piece EP ticking closely at around 18 minutes brings me much joy. We have more dreamier, delay driven parts, and less distorted riffs then on previous Red Sparowes’ records. And although I was little disappointed with the shortage of loud parts, it just didn’t matter after a few listening sessions.

What seduced me to embrace this music, or should I say to fall in love with her dearly, are those brilliant atmospheric parts I could listen for days, without getting bored with them. This sound gives me not only the ability to dream away, but provides me an additional impulse to leave all my earthly troubles to rest for a while. All in all finely produced EP for dreamers and those who are to become such.

The verdict
